One Month Until the Election: Nearly 1,000 Walkers Knock on 33,000 Doors
Nearly 1,000 union members in New Jersey took to the streets today knocking on approximately 33,000 doors in support of Governor Jon Corzine and organized labors’ endorsed candidates. Only 31 days remain until Election Day and labor is not wasting any time in getting the essential messages across before November 3, 2009.
At the IBEW Local 456 Union Hall in Middlesex County, walkers received a warm sendoff from Assemblymen Joseph Egan and Wayne DeAngelo both of whom are a part of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO’s nationally renowned labor candidates program. This year a record number of 70 union members are running for public office, nine of whom are running for Assembly seats.
Additionally, a group of 21 union members from Sweden has been in New Jersey for the past week, learning about the New Jersey State AFL-CIO labor program. Today they got firsthand experience by walking and knocking on doors with union members in New Jersey. There is no doubt that they are learning from the best, and we appreciate everyone who showed our Swedish brothers and sisters their warmest hospitality.
