Youth Transition to Work (YTTW)
The Youth Transition to Work Partnership grant program seeks to facilitate effective transition of youths to high-skilled, high-wage employment in labor demand occupations with long-term career potential and opportunities for occupationally relevant lifelong learning, and thereby motivate youth to greater success in secondary and postsecondary education.
Current YTTW programs expose high school students to an array of career opportunities including:

As a member of the New Jersey Apprenticeship Policy Committee, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO provides the following services to the Youth Transition To Work Partnership Program:
- Provides technical assistance to YTTWPP consortiums;
- Promotes the YTTWPP program and registered apprenticeship to constituent groups;
- Planning of and participation in annual apprenticeship and YTTWPP seminars and conferences;
- Present information about career opportunities through registered apprenticeship at career fairs, middle schools, high schools, and to community groups;
- Provide one-to-one job counseling and referrals to individuals who reach out to the NJ State AFL-CIO regarding career opportunities and registered apprenticeship programs;

Assist local unions in the development and implementation of apprenticeship-to-college linkage programs, including NJ PLACE, which help workers apply credits earned in apprenticeship training toward college degrees;
With the support and assistance of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO Education & Training Department, several local and district union bodies in New Jersey were awarded YTTW Apprenticeship Grants since 1998.
