Our union brothers and sisters in the Philadelphia school system need our support. A rally will be held tomorrow outside of the school district office in Philadelphia, where a massive turnout would send a clear message that the Corbett Administration needs to bargain fairly with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. Let’s show our solidarity for our brothers and sisters in the “City of Brotherly Love”. Details for the rally are as follows:
Date: |
Thursday, October 16, 2014 |
Time: |
4:00 p.m. |
Place: |
The School District of Philadelphia |
Last year, the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers offered concessions in health care savings of $24 million and across the board pay freezes of $10 million. The district refused to accept this offer, pushing for more cost-cutting measures that would remove class size limits and slash the livelihood of teachers by increasing health care contributions while reducing benefits as well as reneging on its responsibility to fund dental and vision coverage.
The cancellation of the teachers’ contract and unyielding cuts is a threat to the quality of education in Philadelphia’s school district and undermines its ability to attract and retain top talent. Thousands of community members including parents, students, teachers, and faith leaders will join together tomorrow to make their voices heard.
Your participation will allow us to make our message to bargain fairly with teachers that much clearer. Be sure to follow the story on Facebook and Twitter by using the following hashtag: #TurnUpforTruth.
