The GOP tax scam was passed by the U.S. House today, 227-203, however the reconciled bill must still be voted on in the U.S. Senate before reaching the president’s desk. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO strongly condemns this outcome that amounts to welfare for the rich at the expense of working families.
Once again, New Jersey’s House delegation was nearly united in its opposition to the bill. The lone exception was Rep. Tom MacArthur as shown by the vote tally below:
Vote on GOP Tax Overhaul RIGHT – Donald Norcross (D-01) RIGHT – Frank LoBiondo (R-02) WRONG – Tom MacArthur (R-03) RIGHT – Christopher Smith (R-04) RIGHT – Josh Gottheimer (D-05) RIGHT – Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-06) RIGHT – Leonard Lance (R-07) RIGHT – Albio Sires (D-08) RIGHT – William Pascrell, Jr. (D-09) RIGHT – Donald Payne, Jr. (D-10) RIGHT – Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11) RIGHT – Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12) |
Of the 12 Republicans that opposed the bill, four were from New Jersey. We also thank all Democratic members of our state delegation for voting to oppose this destructive measure.
No matter the outcome of this fight, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO will continue to advocate for equitable taxation and real reform that puts the financial future of working families first.
