The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is engaged in a fight to save good union jobs at the Metropolitan Opera.
The general manager of the opera house, Peter Gelb, has orchestrated sweeping production changes that are radically driving up the cost and scope of operations. Rather than working with the 16 unions – including six IATSE locals – at the Met, Gelb is blaming labor for the spiraling costs associated with his extravagant productions and untested business model.
Join our professional, back-stage brothers and sisters in Locals 1, 764, 751, 798, 794 and USA829 who have made the success of the Metropolitan Opera their life’s work by telling Gelb and the Metropolitan Opera Board they need to work with IATSE locals on long-term solutions to save the opera, not blame the workers for management’s excessive spending.
