New Jersey Furloughed Federal Employees may be Eligible for Unemployment Benefits

Today marks the 20th day of Trump’s disastrous government shutdown, which has more than 800,000 federal employees either on furlough or working without pay.

If you are a furloughed federal employee and work in New Jersey, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. To learn more about unemployment eligibility, click here. To start your claim, click here. To learn more about the effects of the shutdown, click here.

Any impacted worker in need of assistance can also call 2-1-1 or click here to speak confidentially with a specialist in his or her community about food programs, shelter and housing options, help with utilities and health care, services for veterans and more. This service is free and available 24/7.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO vehemently opposes this outrageous attack on working people and urges our affiliates to take action. Every day that the government stays closed, the country suffers. It’s time to end the shutdown and the pain it is inflicting on working families.

You can take action now by calling your senators and demanding that they end the shutdown immediately.
