TRENTON – Charles Wowkanech, President of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, issued the following statement on the death of former Congressman Robert A. Roe:
“Congressman Roe was a champion of working-class families and an advocate for public works projects during a distinguished 23-year career representing New Jersey in Washington. As chairman of the powerful House Committee on Public Works and Transportation, he steered legislation setting national transportation policy. He played key roles in securing completion of Interstate 287 from Interstate 80 to the New York State Thruway and the Paterson federal building that bears his name. My condolences go out to the Roe family on the loss of a tireless public servant.”
