Please join the New Jersey State AFL-CIO as we stand with HPAE healthcare workers on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 to conduct a one-day informational picket outside of Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) hospitals in Hudson, Monmouth, and Ocean counties.
HPAE represents 2,500 workers in bargaining at four facilities owned by the healthcare giant: Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen; Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune; Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin; and The Harborage, a nursing home in North Bergen.
Negotiations have been ongoing since May for workers at Palisades and The Harborage, while nurses at the shore began bargaining in June. There have been several contract extensions over the past few months as workers and management have been unable to come to agreement on several issues.
Healthcare professionals are bargaining with HMH for livable wages for workers who currently make less than $15 an hour; safe patient limits for nursing staff in hospitals and Certified Nursing Assistants in nursing homes; lower medical costs and improved access to providers for all HMH workers; and HMH provides an environment free of intimidation when HMH workers organize a union.
Since Hackensack Meridian Health became the largest healthcare corporation in New Jersey, the corporate executives have lost sight of their mission to put patient health before corporate wealth. I urge you to join HPAE to demand respect for workers’ voices and patient safety.
