The Assembly has introduced legislation, A-4927, to improve upon our state’s successful paid family leave program. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO and its affiliates championed the original law that was enacted in 2009. Now, with your support, we can make this policy even better for working families.
We also invite affiliates to testify in favor of the bill, which is scheduled for a hearing in the Assembly Regulatory Oversight Committee this Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in Committee Room 14 of the State House Annex.
The proposal would increase benefit levels and available time-off for workers in New Jersey who need to take care of a sick family member or loved one. Improved job protections would also ensure workers are not at risk of losing their jobs for taking leave.
We are proud to once again join with affiliates, community partners and legislative leadership to advance this valuable measure that respects the needs of workers and businesses alike.
The labor movement looks forward to once again playing the critical role in strengthening this landmark achievement and we are thankful for the solidarity of affiliates that will ensure our success.
