A generous donation of baked goods coordinated by the Bakery Confectionery Tobacco and Grain Millers International Union will be the highlight of a food distribution sponsored by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO and its affiliated unions, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
Union volunteers will again gather at Bader Field in Atlantic City on Thursday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to distribute emergency food kits to fellow union brothers and sisters, as well as members of the greater Atlantic City community, who have been hit hard by the casino industry shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
WHAT: Operation Feed Atlantic City food distribution
WHEN: Thursday, May 28, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Bader Field, 600 North Albany St., Atlantic City
“I am extremely proud of the compassion and solidarity of our union brothers and sisters for their support of the entire community,” New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech said. “The BCTGM leadership was extremely enthusiastic about contributing to this great cause, and as a result, there will be tractor-trailers with union-made baked goods waiting for families in need when they arrive next week.”
Under the leadership and direction of International President Anthony Shelton and International Vice President Roger Miller, the BCTGM International Union answered the call to stand with union families in their time of need, and with the entire Atlantic City community, whose lives were plunged into insecurity through no fault of their own.
This effort is part of BCTGM’s ongoing nationwide campaign to donate union-made food products to families who are in need of relief.
Tremendous credit goes to Hank McKay, President of BCTGM Local 6 (based in Philadelphia), Kerry Williams, President of BCTGM Local 374G (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) and Ed Blair, President of BCTGM Local 401G (Muncy, Pennsylvania). They worked with their employers, Bimbo Baking USA and Kellogg’s, to make these donations possible. Thanks also go to Joyce Alston, President of BCTGM Local 53 and a New Jersey State AFL-CIO Executive Board member.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO and BCTGM express their deepest gratitude to Bimbo Baking and Kellogg’s for their generosity and sincere interest in supporting in this important initiative.
