As the Machinists’ strike against IKEA’s distribution plant in South Jersey presses onward, New Jersey State AFL-CIO officers and staff are on site to help their sisters and brothers.
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge I061 went on strike Jan. 20, 2020, against Swedish furniture company IKEA after union members overwhelmingly rejected IKEA’s so-called “last-best-final” offer.
Disputed issues include wages, job security and restrictions on when time off can be taken.
New Jersey State AFL-CIO staff has been assisting the strikers with applying for their hard-earned, well-deserved benefits while they demand that IKEA — at 100 IKEA Drive in Westampton — treats them fairly. The state federation supplied computers and technical know-how to speed up the application process and help ensure the Machinists receive what they are due.
The Machinists are walking the line daily. They invite their union brothers and sisters to join them, to show their colors and demonstrate that when one worker is mistreated, all workers are.
