Federal Employee Pensions & Civil Service Protections Are Under Attack

In addition to the biggest cuts in history to Medicaid, the budget reconciliation bill currently moving through the House of Representatives includes a barrage of anti-federal employees’ policies. Federal workers are noble members of our society who have dedicated their entire careers to serving the needs of the public. Yet, they have been bombarded by constant and aggressive attacks against them by the Trump administration. First, there were massive layoffs through DOGE, then came an executive order stripping away their rights to be in a union, and now they are attacking their pensions and civil service rights. The administration has arbitrarily implemented these anti-union policies without regard for federal workers’ rights as union members. These attacks include:
- Drastic increases to employee contribution rates for workers hired before 2014.
- Charging new federal employees 9.4% of their salary for their pension contribution unless they agree to be at-will employees and waive their civil service protections.
- Changing their pension benefits calculation from “high 3” years to “high five” years, which will result in a lower benefit upon retirement.
- Eliminating supplemental retirement payments.
We urge you to TAKE ACTION NOW on behalf of your union brothers and sisters. CLICK HERE to send a pre-written e-mail to your member of Congress urging them to protect federal workers’ pensions and to oppose the budget reconciliation bill currently advancing.
