Brother Mark McManus was elected General President of the United Association at the UA’s 39th General Convention and will assume his new role next January. On behalf of the one million members of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, we congratulate Brother McManus on his new leadership position that reflects his ongoing and distinguished career in support of our nation’s hard working men and women.
Prior to his election as General President, he served as Administrative Assistant to the General President and as an International Representative for the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He currently serves as General Secretary‐Treasurer.
Brother McManus began his career with the United Association in March of 1983 when he was initiated into Plumbers Local 24 in Newark, New Jersey. He went on to hold a variety of leadership positions, including business agent and executive board member. He was elected business manager in 1997.
Whether serving his local union or the community through various public board positions, Brother McManus has been unwavering in his commitment to solidarity, collective representation, and economic opportunity for all. We are confident that as President, he will continue the UA’s tradition of quality training, safe jobs, industry partnerships and worker empowerment.
Once again, it is with great pride that we celebrate the election of Brother McManus – a great friend, New Jerseyan, and trade unionist – who offers a progressive vision to promote social and economic justice for all working families.
