As Fourth of July weekend approaches, we are reminded of the many rights and freedoms that others around the world lack: freedom to join a union, freedom to vote in elections and to do our jobs in workplaces free of intimidation and suppression.
These freedoms were not achieved easily. But for the blood spilled by our ancestors, who had the courage to seek independence, and the sacrifices of our union brothers and sisters, we would not have the many rights and freedoms that we enjoy today.
We ask that you keep the bold actions of our predecessors in mind in our ongoing struggle to make our state and country a better place. We also ask that you remember the men and women of our armed forces, who fight for our freedom every day.
Please be safe as you celebrate America’s independence, and remember that we can accomplish great goals when we work together as one.
