AFL-CIO President Shuler, AFT President Weingarten thank statewide labor volunteers, praise pro-labor Governor Murphy

[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”59″ display=”basic_imagebrowser”]National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler praised Gov. Phil Murphy’s unwavering support for union members and all working families as she and National AFT President Randi Weingarten made a personal visit to thank New Jersey’s thousands of labor walk volunteers for their outstanding Get Out The Vote efforts.

“It is great to be with New Jersey activists today!” President Shuler said. “Gov. Phil Murphy and the entire New Jersey Legislature are up for election in November. I’m stumping for pro-worker candidates who are committed to union values and the needs of working people. To the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, Bergen County Central Labor Council, all New Jersey CLCs and all our Labor Walk volunteers statewide, thank you for your tireless work. You are making the union difference. And when union members are united, we win.”

President Shuler, President Weingarten, state labor leaders including New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech and Secretary-Treasurer Laurel Brennan, along with Bergen County CLC President Michael Schneider, IBEW 164 Business Manager Dan Gumble and CLC officers, joined the governor in personally thanking the thousands of labor walk volunteers statewide.

The volunteers have been working tirelessly around the state to re-elect Governor Murphy and Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver, and to elect labor-endorsed candidates and especially Labor Candidates to state, county and local offices. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO’s statewide program is leading the educational and GOTV efforts for Murphy-Oliver.

“We are deeply honored to have President Shuler and President Weingarten with us today,” President Wowkanech said at the Bergen County CLC on Saturday, October 16.

“Their presence says clearly how important Governor Murphy’s re-election is to our Labor Movement,” he said. “And we are all proud and grateful for the incredible work our brothers and sisters are doing every Saturday at our labor walks and weeknights at phone banks and texting programs. We look forward to seeing the fruits of our labors.”

Every Saturday since the start of Election Season, thousands of rank-and-file union brothers and sisters in every corner of the Garden State have dedicated their days to distributing timely information that educates union families about the pro-labor record of the Murphy administration and the state Legislature.

Many Labor Candidates already hold office, and our Labor Movement is working energetically to expand their numbers by getting out the vote – by mail, during Early Voting, and on Election Day.

But time is running short!

Be part of history by joining our brothers and sisters on labor walks at New Jersey CLCs every Saturday morning through October 30, and on Election Day.

Vote-by-Mail is underway in New Jersey, with in-person Early Voting set for October 23 to 31 and traditional voting on Election Day November 2. Find your nearest labor walk and other volunteer opportunities at https://njaflcio.org/cope/labor-walks/

For more information about the Murphy-Oliver administration and all labor-endorsed candidates, plus how-to guides on the three ways to vote, visit https://njaflcio.org/labor2021, Your Union Voter Resource.

Together we will make history by re-electing Gov. Phil Murphy!
