This distribution was part of a continuing effort that began more than a year ago as the pandemic stunned the Atlantic City casinos and related industries. It was sponsored by the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
As he looked at the union volunteers hefting the food kits into trunks and hatchbacks, New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech said, “I am proud of all the work our affiliates have put into this once-in-a-lifetime program. When COVID hit last year, we sprang into action, and we have continued to stand with Atlantic City because the need has continued. The dedication of our brothers and sisters made Operation Feed Atlantic City one of the most sustainable programs of its kind, and we are deeply grateful.”
Union members from IATSE, IUOE, NYSNA/Shore Nurses and UNITE HERE provided the hands and hearts to share food and hope with the 2,000-plus recipients.
