Another Step Toward Full Construction is Achieved. An estimated 95,000 Jobs to Be Created by Completion in 2035
Yesterday, elected officials from New Jersey and New York announced that $6.88 billion in federal funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project has been obtained. The long-awaited project now has enough federal funding to begin the full construction phase. This is the largest federal funding commitment to a rail transportation project in over a decade.
“Today marks a significant milestone on the path to ensuring the success of our nation’s most vital infrastructure project,” said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. “New Jersey thanks the Biden-Harris Administration for delivering this critical investment so that our region’s transportation system will be able to support a new century of American leadership.”
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks the Biden Administration for delivering on their commitments to increasing the number of good paying union jobs, while investing in much needed improvements to infrastructure.
The Hudson Tunnel Project is another example of Biden’s dedication to growing our regional economy and addressing an important quality of life issue. Massive congestion and antiquated transportation infrastructure has restricted the delivery of commerce and plagued commuters for over a decade. Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enacted in 2021, has provided funding for 57,000 projects, creating more opportunities for working families.
