Coronavirus update from New Jersey State AFL-CIO

With New Jersey in a state of emergency and a health emergency because of the COVID-19 coronavirus, and with Gov. Phil Murphy stating that all gatherings of 250 people or more should be canceled, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO is gathering important facts and useful links to help working families get through this crisis.

Time-off benefits:

New Jersey has some of the best worker protections regarding Paid Family Leave and paid sick time, benefits that your New Jersey State AFL-CIO championed. All employees – full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal – are covered.

The state Department of Labor & Workforce Development explains: New Jersey’s Earned Sick Leave Law even covers public health emergencies – employees can use earned sick leave if their workplace or child’s school or day care is closed due to an epidemic, or if a public health authority determines the need for a quarantine.
