New Jersey State AFL-CIO Thanks Governor Murphy for Signing “Temporary Worker’s Bill of Rights”

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks Governor Murphy for signing A1474/S511, the Temporary Worker’s Bill of Rights, and standing up for some of our state’s most vulnerable workers. We are proud of the efforts of our labor movement who understand all too well the impact this law will have on our most vulnerable and exploited workforce. Elevating the employment standards of temporary workers will reform the temporary staffing industry and address unscrupulous business practices like wage theft, pay discrimination and unsafe working conditions which hurt all workers.

The new law will increase accountability for the temporary staffing industry to prevent exploitation of workers by bad actors. It empowers the Department of Labor and Workforce Development with new enforcement tools and resources, and creates a new private right of action for temporary workers to seek a remedy in court. These provisions will help ensure staffing agencies are in compliance with the legislation.

Thank you again to all of our affiliated unions and community allies who raised their voices with us in unity to demand change and worked tirelessly toward passage of this bipartisan legislation to establish basic worker rights in the temporary staffing industry.
