SOLIDARITY ALERT: ABC Test for Independent Contractor Determination Under Attack

SOLIDARITY ALERT

ABC Test for Independent Contractor Determination Under Attack

Hearing Scheduled Monday Morning to Give the NJ Business and Industry Association (BIA), the Associated Building Contractors (ABC) and “Gig” Companies a Forum to Attack Newly Adopted Regulations

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO urges all affiliates to attend the Senate Labor Committee hearing this Monday, May 11, to testify in support of the independent contractor regulations adopted on May 5, 2026. Click here to see the regulations and comments submitted during the regulatory process. Click here to read the Department of Labor’s press release on the issue.

The business community and the Associated Building Contractors in particular, will be out in full force attacking these regulations and urging legislators to repeal or modify the regulation. Organized labor needs to have a strong presence at the hearing, and every impacted union should send a representative to testify in support.

WHERE: State House Annex, Committee Room 6

WHAT: Public Hearing to take testimony about the Department of Labor’s Regulations on the ABC test for independent contractor status
