Different month, same need.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO and its affiliated unions, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Agency and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey held a food distribution event at Bader Field in Atlantic City on Thursday, Oct. 1.
For the 10th time in 20 weeks, brothers and sisters from Atlantic City’s casino-related unions and other nearby affiliates volunteered their day to help distribute food kits to laid-off workers and the Shore resort’s community at large. Members from IATSE, IUOE and UNITE-HERE – many of them hit by layoffs themselves – loaded 2,250 meal kits and produce and shared a smile with the recipients.
“The people keep coming,” New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech said as he looked out over a sea of cars. “It’s clear that our solidarity with Atlantic City is making a difference, and that we’re supporting them and standing with them with a hand up, not a handout.”
