FAIR Act Released from Committee with Unanimous Bi-Partisan Support

The “Fair Artificial Intelligence Regulation” (FAIR) Act Released from Committee with Unanimous Bi-Partisan Support

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks the Senators that voted today in favor of S-4075 (Zwicker / Turner / Scutari), the FAIR Act. This pioneering legislation was released from the Senate Labor Committee by a vote of 5-0. Members of the Senate Labor Committee and their votes are listed below:

Senator Gordon Johnson (D-37): YES

Senator Andrew Zwicker (D-16): YES

Senator Angela V. McKnight (D-31): YES

Senator Vincent Polistina (R-2): YES

Senator Doug Steinhardt (R-23): YES

Thank you to the Senators that voted in favor of this bill on the committee. We also would like to thank Senators Zwicker, Turner and Scutari, the prime sponsors, for their leadership on this issue.

We also thank our union brothers and sisters from every sector of our labor movement who turned out in record numbers to testify—relaying through compelling testimonies their members’ experiences and how AI could impact their industries and their jobs.

The future of work is changing drastically and rapidly due to AI and many of our jobs and livelihoods are at risk. This is one of the most urgent labor issues that will be debated this legislative session, and we commend the elected officials that are taking action now to address AI’s impact on workers and unions. Passing this legislation is the first step in achieving that.

We look forward to working with legislative leadership and the Sherrill administration to continue to advance this priority legislation.
