TODAY IN THE STATE HOUSE: LEGISLATIVE UPDATE – Transportation Trust Fund Reauthorization Passes Both Houses

TODAY IN THE STATE HOUSE: LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Transportation Trust Fund Reauthorization Passes Both Houses

Members of the Laborer’s Union (LIUNA) packed the State House in support of transportation funding.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO, and many of our affiliates, advocated for the passage of critical legislation to fund transportation infrastructure in our state and we thank the legislators that today voted in favor.  The bill passed both houses mostly along party lines.  A-4011 (Sarlo / Calabrese / Scutari) was supported by both organized labor and the business community and is a critical piece of legislation that will build transportation infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient transportation.  It is also a significant boost to the State’s economy and will create union jobs in the building and construction trades.

It passed the Assembly 48-28, 0-4 with all Democrats present voting yes, except Assembly members Bailey (D-3), Hutchison (D-4), Katz (D-8), Miller (D-4) and Simmons (D-3) who voted against funding the TTF.  Assembly Republicans that stood with organized labor in support were Barlas (R-40), DePhillips (R-40), Kean (R-30) and Sauickie (R-12). It passed the Senate 24-14-2 with all Democrats present voting yes, except Senators Moriarty (D-4), Beach (D-6) and Burzichelli (D-3). Republican Senators Holzapfel (R-10), Polistina (R-2) and Singer (R-30) voted in favor.  To view the entire vote, click here.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks the sponsors, Speaker Coughlin and Senate President Scutari for their leadership on this important bill which is now on the Governor’s desk.
