United Transportation Union officer and New Jersey State AFL-CIO Executive Board member Dan O’Connell has won his race for Delran Council, adding to the impressive number of labor-endorsed candidates who were successful in this year’s elections.
Three out of four labor candidates running for office in New Jersey won their general elections, making our Labor Candidates Program among the most successful in the country. We had the backs of labor candidates during the campaign, and now they have ours!
Dan O’Connell’s race was a nail-biter that took eight days to decide. On Election Day, he was down by 2 votes. Mail-in ballots reversed his position, putting him up by 7. By Friday, his lead had risen to 9 votes, thanks to absentee ballots. Provisional ballots counted Wednesday raised Dan’s margin of victory to 15 votes.
Congratulations Dan!
“This result would not have been possible without the all-out support of my labor team,” said O’Connell. “My sincerest thanks go out to the State AFL-CIO, Burlington Central Labor Council and the hundreds of union members who volunteered for this election.”
With your help, we also saw union brother Donald Norcross, IBEW 351, elected to Congress. He was sworn in Wednesday. We applaud our entire labor-endorsed slate.
Dan O’Connell’s victory proves that every vote counts. When we work together, we win together.
