Workers at EEW American Offshore Structures Say “Union YES!”

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO congratulates the workers of EEW American Offshore Structures for their organizing win yesterday where the workers voted to join the Iron Workers International Union. Approximately 45 workers employed at the Paulsboro Monopile manufacturing facility overwhelmingly signed cards to join the union.  As the facility expands to meet demand, it is estimated that the union will expand its membership at the facility significantly.

This is another example of how organizing in the renewable energy sector, and in the wind energy sector specifically, has the potential to grow union membership and create good paying union jobs.

We commend the efforts of Steve Sweeney, the former Senate President and current International Ironworkers Union official, who has been a strong proponent of developing wind energy in southern New Jersey for over a decade. His vision in helping to develop this new industry is not only good for the environment, but also New Jersey’s economy.

We also congratulate Richard Sweeney, the Business Manager of Local 399 on this organizing win on behalf of the employees at EEW.
