Celebrate Labor Day with the New Jersey State AFL-CIO and Our Central Labor Councils
This Labor Day, we honor the working people who build our communities and fight for fair wages, safe workplaces and dignity on the job! Let’s celebrate our victories and recommit to defending our democracy!
Please join the New Jersey State AFL-CIO at the following events that celebrate our labor movement hosted by our Central Labor Councils:
Peter J. McGuire Labor Day Memorial and Scholarship Breakfast
Hosted by the Southern New Jersey State AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, the 132nd Annual Peter J. McGuire Labor Day and Memorial Scholarship Breakfast, will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026. Honoring the legacy of labor leader Peter J. McGuire, the event will include the presentation of the George E. Norcross Humanitarian Award to Helen Ireland the President of the Southern New Jersey Central Labor Council, and Political and Education Director of UFCW 360, and the Third Annual Lifetime Labor Achievement Award to Mark E. Belland of O’Brien, Belland and Bushinsky LLC. In addition, the Peter J. McGuire AFL-CIO Scholarship will be awarded to worthy college students that represent our hopes for the future. These scholarships are presented at the breakfast to high school seniors who are active union members, or the family of a union member attending Camden County College, Rutgers Camden, Rowan Glassboro and Rowan of South Jersey in the fall.
The event concludes with a wreath laying at the Peter J. McGuire Memorial at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken, NJ at 11:15 a.m. Several labor leaders, as well as legislators, will be in attendance, including New Jersey State AFL-CIO officers President Charles Wowkanech and Secretary-Treasurer Laurel Brennan, Congressman Donald Norcross (CD-1), Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, and Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development, Kevin Jarvis.

The 35th Annual Celebration of Labor Parade
Each year, the Essex-West Hudson Central Labor Council holds their annual Labor Day Parade celebrating working people from every sector of the labor movement. At this year’s celebration, Al Rispoli, President of the Teamsters Joint Council 73 will serve as the 2026 Grand Marshal and Paul Roldan, the Business Manager of Laborers Local 3, will serve as Deputy Grand Marshal.

American Labor Museum Labor Day Parade
Co-sponsored by the museum and the Borough of Haledon, the parade will be held on Sunday, September 6. The opening ceremony will begin at the Museum at 10:00 a.m. This year’s Labor Day Parade honors Grand Marshals Kevin Jarvis, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development and Brian Jackson, President of the Passaic County Building & Construction Trades Council.

Labor Day Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Haddonfield
On Labor Day, Father Jon Thomas will offer a mass with a labor theme throughout the prayers and homily at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Haddonfield at 8:00 am. For more information, call 856-429-1600.
