This weekend, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO held the 30th Annual Joseph V. Egan Labor Candidates School, where our labor candidates from every sector of our labor movement participated in this essential program that prepares our labor candidates to run for office by giving them the opportunity to learn from experts with years of experience working on successful political campaigns.
This year, we were honored to welcome Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Maurice Cobb to the school, where he was inspired by the enthusiasm of the labor candidates. At the conclusion of the program, he shared his interest in bringing back this program to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.
Each year, we are grateful for our instructors who generously offer their wisdom, knowledge and expertise to this program which is the only one of its kind in our nation. Many of our instructors have deep roots in our labor movement, and all of them are dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of union leaders are equipped with cutting edge tools that will lead them to victory on election day. We especially thank Congressman Frank Pallone (CD-6) and our union brothers Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (LD-15,) and Essex County Commissioner Leonard Luciano for their many years of serving as instructors and communicating the immense responsibility that comes with being elected to office and representing the voices of working people.
Finally, this program would not be the success that it is without the dedication and commitment of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO staff who develop the curriculum and facilitate this program that plays a major role in our New Jersey labor movement.
A sincere congratulations to all of our labor candidates who graduated this year. We look forward to kicking off the start of the election season and having conversations with our union brothers and sisters on the importance of electing their fellow union members to office. With yet another successful labor candidates school, our labor candidates are on the path to victory. We are committed to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them throughout every step of the way.
