Governor Mikie Sherrill’s Inauguration Marks a New Chapter for Our Labor Movement

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO was proud to witness history in the making today at the inauguration of Governor Mikie Sherrill, our state’s first Democratic female governor at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. This moment marks a new era of progress not only for our state but for our labor movement.

From her time serving in the Navy, to serving the 11th Congressional District, Mikie Sherrill has dedicated her career to public service. In Congress, Governor Sherrill has stood with working people on the picket line, advocating for the fair wages and benefits that they deserve, and ensuring that labor has a seat at the table.

As governor, she will continue to put the interests of working people first, by defending their fundamental rights to organize, collectively bargain, and will enforce wage and hour laws and protect Project Labor Agreements. Under her leadership, we will continue to expand the rights that workers deserve, ensuring that each and every single worker is treated with dignity, fairness and equity.

This monumental achievement is a testament to the strength of our labor movement, and to all of the efforts of our affiliates and committed volunteers in New Jersey who dedicated their time and efforts to protect our democracy, and amplify the voice of labor. Our unity, and commitment to our union values has never been more important and vital in shaping our futures. On behalf of our one million members and their families, we are grateful for all that you have done, and will continue to do as we build upon this historic moment. Solidarity, no matter what!

A sincere congratulations to Governor Mikie Sherill, and Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale Caldwell. Your leadership continues to be a source of hope and inspiration to all.
