In honor of Independence Day, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO is proud to announce the formation of a Union Veterans Council. The Union Veterans Council will bring working-class veterans together to speak out on the issues that impact us most—especially the need for good jobs and a strong, fully funded and staffed VA.
Additionally, the Council will hold private enterprise and elected officials accountable for their words and actions.
We believe wholeheartedly that the ability for someone to self-identify as “pro-veteran” isn’t determined by what lapel pin they don or what catchphrase they employ; veterans face real issues that require real actions—constructive actions that lead to positive solutions.
At the Union Veterans Council, we fight every day for those who have fought for us. If you or any of your family members served in the military, we strongly encourage you to join our movement.
Also, in the coming weeks, the State Fed will be selecting a Union Veterans Council Committee. If you would like to make a recommendation, please contact Michael Comoroto at MComoroto@njaflcio.org.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO wishes you and your family a happy Independence Day, and we ask that you use this opportunity to reflect on the many freedoms that we enjoy as a labor movement.
Freedom to vote!
Freedom of speech!
Freedom to join a labor union!
Freedom to work in a safe, intimidation-free environment!
Freedom to organize and collectively bargain for fair wages, benefits and better working conditions!
Remember to support union businesses this summer by buying union-made products and shopping at union stores. Whether you’re looking for food, alcohol, gas grills or beach supplies, check our website and Labor 411, which is an excellent resource for helping you choose the right union-made products. The website also offers a list of union hotels, entertainment venues and other businesses. Union Plus offers a union-made car and truck guide, vacation discounts and more.
As always, thank you for your continued support and solidarity. Please be safe as you celebrate America’s independence.
