SOLIDARITY UPDATE: New Jersey AFL-CIO Joined by Assemblyman Verrelli at UAW 2326 Rally

Today, hundreds of union members from every sector of the labor movement joined with legislators to rally in support of our UAW 2326 Region 9 brothers and sisters who have been on strike since early June at West Rock, LLC.

Negotiations are at a standstill; company profits have soared since the pandemic into the billions and yet the company is demanding cuts to the loyal, longtime workers’ healthcare benefits. Our brothers and sisters are resolute in their fight for fairness, dignity and equity and we in the labor movement are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them.

We were honored to have our union brother, who we elected to the New Jersey State Assembly, Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (D-15), who was the prime sponsor of bill A-4772, that allows striking workers to collect unemployment if they are locked out or replaced while on strike. Assemblyman Verrelli offered his full support to the workers and UAW Region 9 leaders demanding West Rock return to the table and negotiate in good faith.

This fight is about all of us who want a strong voice on the job, quality healthcare and good wages! We will continue to rally with, and strongly support, our fellow trade unionists who are on strike at West Rock, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and SAG/AFTRA and WGA who fight on behalf of all of us, because we know that belonging to a union and working with a union contract makes a positive difference in all our lives
